Robert Petricini, Candidate, Vice President of Fairfax
Master’s Student, History (full-time student)
Expected Graduation Date: May 2018
Brief biography and candidate statement about why you would be qualified for this position:
Hello! My name is Robert Petricini and I am working on obtaining my master’s degree in history as well as a certificate in the digital humanities. I graduated from Kent State University in Ohio where I also majored in history. While at Kent State, I held various jobs and internships that put me in a leadership role including supervising the recreational center, leading a small group of interns at a local historic site, and even working as part of an eight man team that traveled the 48 continental states organizing a history trivia competition for middle schoolers! Shortly after moving to Virginia, I was hired by the Office of Historic Alexandria as a Museum Aid to interpret their many museums located throughout the city. This spring, I also had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant for the history department here on the Fairfax campus. This assistantship has allowed me to connect with students and teachers on a deeper level as well as showing me the time and effort that goes into planning an entire semester.
Will you be able to meet the time commitments and expectations of the position? Describe your availability for Fall 2017, as well as other on-going time commitments (e.g., classes, work, organizational involvement).
This Fall 2017, I hope to be returning as a TA for the history department once more. Along with that, I will be working two days a week at Historic Alexandria as well as taking 9 credit hours, similar to what I did this semester.
