Biography and Candidate Statement

My name is Pavithra Suresh and I hope to represent the graduate and professional student body as the GAPSA Director of Communications for the coming year. I’m coming to this position as a PhD Candidate in Cultural Studies with undergraduate and master’s degrees in Communication. In addition to my academic work, I’ve served as the Communications Director for the Cultural Studies Student Organizing Committee. I believe in the fundamental necessity of accessible and engaging organizational communication, particularly when the media being produced is reaching diverse audiences like the Mason graduate and professional student body. As graduate and professional students, we often feel like we are left out of conversations for students and for faculty/staff, despite the fact that many of us occupy multiple roles on campus. It’s my objective as the Director of Communications to help bridge that gap and facilitate effective communications between the graduate and professional student body and the larger Mason community. I aim to ensure that not only are students’ needs met, but also that they are able to tap into all of the opportunities and resources that GAPSA and Mason have to offer. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you in the coming year!

Will you be able to meet the time commitments and expectations of the position? Describe your probable availability for the 2022-2023 academic year, as well as other on-going time commitments (e.g., classes, work, organizational involvement).

I do not have teaching or professional obligations aside from dissertating, which will free up my schedule to participate meaningfully in GAPSA activities. I anticipate I can commit 5-8 hours per week on average for GAPSA, and will regularly be on campus as well.
