Biography and Candidate Statement

Imagine you’re a graduate or professional student at Mason and you go to class, you may go to work and then go home feeling isolated from the larger community. Does this sound like your time here so far? If not, I’m here to build off your already positive experience. If so, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kianna Barial-Tucker and I am a first generation, rising second year in the Biology Masters program from Norfolk, Virginia. I completed my undergraduate studies at Radford University where I served as the President of the Radford Student Programming and Campus Events (R-SPaCE) Executive Board. My role as President allowed me the opportunity to serve and represent thousands of undergraduate students as well as create events for a diverse student population. I envision this to be what it is like being a part of GAPSA leadership. I am also passionate about advocating for social issues related to our student population and the surrounding community and have valuable experience working closely with University administration. My school spirit transitioned with me to Mason at the beginning of the year. You may recognize me from sporting my Mason gear @shopmason via Instagram in the bookstore. My experience has made me understand the importance of advocating for graduate students and being able to expand our experience while attending Mason. I envision an opportunity to create a more connective and engaging community for all graduate and professional students at Mason. In this role, I would be able to build off previous GAPSA Presidents in order to create a thriving culture for our graduate and professional students and create opportunities for community partnerships that our students could benefit from throughout their time at Mason. It would be an honor to serve in this role as it aligns with my passions and experience. I look forward to sharing my platform with the Mason graduate and professional community. Thank you for your consideration.
