Biography and Candidate Statement
I am Isaac Gibbons, a full-time George Mason University graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering. During this period of dynamic and evolving environments, I would like to offer my accumulated knowledge and experience developed over 15 years of directly solving complex issues associated with various programs in the United States government. My career could be summed up in three roles: Coast Guard military officer, United States Department of States Foreign Service Officer, and Central Intelligence Agency Operations Officer. These roles provided me with a diverse array of complex challenges, which allowed me to develop a wide array of tools to address these challenges. I have learned that every major milestone achieved was a direct result of personal leadership (hard work, dedication, perseverance, patience) and strong teamwork. I believe in servant leadership and would like to serve as President of the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA). I am a Black male who has had the opportunity to interact, learn from, and enjoy friendships from cultures around the world. Through personal experience and wisdom from others, I know the challenges we face as a diverse body of students in today’s environment. I do not have the solutions; however, I am quite passionate about working towards solutions. I know through my professional network and my own knowledge that this upcoming year will be difficult for the global theater. My goal and aspiration is that we, as a community of driven and intelligent students, work together to ensure that despite the darkness we remain a beacon of light. I acknowledge the issues are numerous and complex, and each deserves time and discussion. My focus will be centered on the following issues: GMU’s standard of academic excellence, GMU’s professional network and ability to leverage career and research opportunities, GMU’s commitment to mental and financial health, and GMU’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I will commit myself to ensure progress is made on these issues. I will commit myself to ensure all voices are heard. I will commit myself to ensure no person’s time, energy, or resources are wasted. My hope is that tomorrow we can all walk into a future that is a little brighter; together as friends and colleagues, as George Mason University Patriots.
Will you be able to meet the time commitments and expectations of the position? Describe your probable availability for the 2022-2023 academic year, as well as other on-going time commitments (e.g., classes, work, organizational involvement).
I will be able to meet the time commitments and expectations for this position. I strongly desire this position and would not place myself into a position that carries such responsibility and impact to other’s lives without ensuring I have the time to dedicate. I am currently a full-time student dedicated to my studies, and at this point I have no additional commitments. Regardless of what may develop in the future, I will ensure GAPSA remains a priority for me.
