Biography and Candidate Statement

I am currently finishing my first year as a graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Studies program with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. My research focus is currently in postcolonial depictions of Southeast Asians in media such as film and television. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln before coming to Mason. Go Big Red! During my time as an undergraduate I spent my time becoming immersed in my university. While there I was an active member of the Student Alumni Association Board of Directors and a Member of the English Student Advisory Board, in addition to my work as an English/Film Studies Mentor and Legends Scholarship mentor. My work with the University allowed me to help coordinate various events, workshops, and small group events for both academic departments and administrative offices. It is there that I learned how to support the needs of my students and gained strong collaboration skills, in order to facilitate an environment that empowered students to succeed academically and engage meaningfully with our university. Something that I hope to do for my fellow graduate and professional student colleagues. Since the end of my undergraduate career my professional positions have also helped me gain more skills. I have worked as a Business Advocate, for ALLO, a local internet service provider. As a Business Advocate, I gained full time professional experience advocating for the needs of my businesses and collaborating with companies of all kinds to make sure we reached the best solution. Today, I work with the university as one of the Fairfax Campus Information Desk and Switchboard Shift Lead to provide information to students and patrons alike to ensure the best experience at George Mason University. This position has helped me foster a strong relationship with various Mason departments and our students. This position has proved to be immensely helpful and has strengthened my commitment to George Mason University. I believe that my past experiences have brought me to a place where I can work with my fellow students to advocate for meaningful change, grow with one another, and form a community that makes Mason a better place to work, study, and grow.

Will you be able to meet the time commitments and expectations of the position? Describe your probable availability for the 2022-2023 academic year, as well as other on-going time commitments (e.g., classes, work, organizational involvement).

I will be able to meet the time commitments necessary for the position.
