Biography and Candidate Statement

Carolyn Faith Hoffman, MPH is a current third-year PhD student in the health services research program in the Department of Health Administration and Policy in the College of Public Health. In addition, she is completing a graduate certificate in health informatics and data analytics through the Department of Health Administration and Policy in CPH. She has served as a graduate research assistant in the Department of Health Administration and Policy since May 2021, with research interests in disabilities and access to care factors such as health insurance and place of residence. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her miniature poodle, Chick, as well as cross-country skiing, doing yoga, and reading. Carolyn is interested in serving as President of GAPSA. She has served as the health services research PhD program GAPSA representative for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. She is aware of the concerns of the graduate student body, particularly greater parking and transportation access on each campus, increased safety measures on each campus, and equity in graduate research assistant pay across the multiple colleges. She is specifically passionate about increasing GAPSA awareness amongst graduate students across all campuses as well as ensuring graduate students have their voices heard in the university’s decision making. As an individual with a disability, Carolyn is quite familiar with the feeling of being “unheard.” She believes her experiences advocating for herself and navigating graduate work able-bodied society will help her serve as an even stronger President, as she is able to sympathize and empathize with others’ concerns.

Availability and Commitment to the Time and Expectations of the Position

If selected, the time commitments and expectations of the position would take the upmost priority in my schedule. Regarding my availability for the 2024-2025 academic school year, I will be finishing my graduate certificate in health informatics and data analytics in Fall 2024 by taking one class in health informatics. Additionally, I will (hopefully) be working on my dissertation, as I am defending my dissertation proposal on May 16, 2024. Lastly, as I am a full-time, fully funded student, I will be serving as a graduate research assistant for a professor in the department of Health Administration and Policy throughout the 2024-2025 school year. Lastly, it is my goal to defend my dissertation in May 2025..
