Biography and Candidate Statement

Dear fellow graduate and professional students, My name is Selina, and I am a dedicated graduate student at George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus, pursuing my Master’s in Bioinformatics and computational biology. With a profound understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by graduate and professional students at our regional campus, I am eager to serve as your Vice President. Throughout my academic journey, I have demonstrated leadership abilities, serving as an Event and Administrative Assistant for University Life SciTech. In this role, I have organized events aimed at promoting student well-being and supporting our community. These experiences have equipped me with the skills necessary to advocate for your needs and concerns. Inspired by a desire to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, I am dedicated to improving graduate and professional student life at our campus. My goal is to ensure that every student has the resources they need to thrive academically by addressing issues ranging from academic support to campus resources through active engagement with instructors, administrators, and students. If elected, I will prioritize open communication and collaboration, ensuring that your voices are heard and respected. Through town halls, forums, and other initiatives, I will work tirelessly to understand and address your concerns, while also striving to create meaningful opportunities for engagement and involvement. I am committed to enhancing the resources and support services available to students. Whether it’s improving academic advising, expanding professional development opportunities, or advocating for increased funding for student organizations, I will actively seek out solutions to enhance your overall experience. I will work closely with university administration, educators, and staff as your Vice President, acting as a committed support to bring about positive change and create a friendly and inclusive campus community. Availability and Commitment to the Time and Expectations of the position

As a dedicated individual, I fully understand the importance of meeting the time commitments and expectations associated with the Vice President position. For the 2024-2025 academic year, I have carefully considered my availability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role while managing other ongoing commitments. Regarding academic commitments, I plan to enroll in 3 classes, which totals 9 credits. These classes will be scheduled in a manner that allows me to effectively balance my academic responsibilities with my duties as Vice President. I am committed to maintaining a high level of academic performance while fulfilling my obligations to the student body. I will be working part-time on campus, which will require a portion of my time each week. However, I have ensured that my work schedule is flexible enough to accommodate the demands of the Vice President position, including attending regular meetings, organizing events, and engaging with students. I am committed to serving the graduate and professional student community at George Mason University’s Science and Technology Campus and will make every effort to meet the time commitments and expectations of the Vice President role during the 2024-2025 academic year.
