Biography and Candidate Statement

My name is Jeyasri sathyamoorthy, and I am a graduate student at George Mason University on the SciTech Campus. I am passionate about building community, supporting students, and helping create a campus environment where everyone feels heard, included, and encouraged to succeed. I believe student leadership is important because it gives students a voice and helps create stronger connections between the student body and university leadership. I am interested in serving as the GAPSA Vice President of the SciTech Campus because I want to represent graduate students and contribute to making our campus more engaging and supportive. I understand that graduate students face different academic, professional, and personal challenges, and I want to help make sure their concerns and ideas are recognized. One of the experiences that has prepared me for this role is my work as an Event and Administrative Assistant at The Source, where I worked with Michael and Kerry. In this role, I helped with event coordination, administrative tasks, communication, and organization. Through this experience, I learned how to manage responsibilities effectively, work as part of a team, and support events and activities that bring people together. It also helped me develop professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills. I believe I am qualified for this position because I am responsible, approachable, and committed to serving others. I am someone who listens carefully, works well with different people, and takes my responsibilities seriously. I believe these qualities are important for representing students and helping address their needs. If elected, I would work to strengthen communication between graduate students and campus leadership, encourage more student involvement, and support initiatives that improve student life on the SciTech Campus. My goal would be to help students feel more connected to the campus community and more confident that their voices matter. “Serving in this position would allow me to actively advocate for graduate students and help create a more connected, inclusive, and supportive SciTech Campus community.”

Availability and Commitment to the Time and Expectations of the position

I am available on the SciTech Campus during the day for most of the week. On Tuesdays, I am at the Fairfax Campus teaching students, so my availability is limited on that day. I do have experiments to do everyday.
