What does it mean to be a GAPSA General Assembly Representative?
- The GAPSA General Assembly (GA) is composed of representatives from each graduate or professional degree program across all George Mason campuses.
- Each program has a different method of selecting or electing its representative. Some are appointed by their graduate program director, while others are elected or selected by their departmental student organization. Graduate students may reach out to their program and/or to [email protected] to state their interest in becoming a representative.
- Representatives attend monthly GA meetings with the executive board. During these meetings, only representatives are permitted to vote on matters that require voting.

- A representative is responsible for reaching out to constituents in their program and connecting back with the General Assembly and Executive Board with any feedback.
- If a representative cannot attend a meeting, they are required to provide a proxy to take their place for that meeting.
- The representative should inform the executive board of the proxy no less than 48 hours prior to the meeting.
- Representatives may also be asked to serve on ad hoc or other special committees designated by the GAPSA Executive Board.
- GA representatives are eligible for an extra $50 through the Graduate Student Travel Fund as long as they maintain their active membership in the Assembly. Active membership requires that representatives attend all GA monthly meetings, or that they provide proxies for the meeting they cannot attend.
