Biography and Candidate Statement
My name is Nathan Stolzenfeld, and I am a first-semester M.A. International Security student running for the Vice President of Arlington Campus (Mason Square) position on the GAPSA executive board. I have a B.A. in International Security from George Mason University, as one of the first seven individuals with the degree. I have been a research assistant in various roles for the Schar School for two years, with that phase of my career ending at the conclusion of this semester. Additionally, I currently serve as the Graduate Assistant for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL). In that role, I oversee academic support and all programming for the FSL community, and act as the staff advisor to our Greek member honor society, Order of Omega. These experiences have placed me in front of critical student-affecting issues within our community, and prepared me to represent the voices of the Mason Square Campus to our broader GAPSA General Assembly, university administration, government at all levels, and the international community. If elected, I intend to leverage George Mason’s unique diversity and access to resources to forward opportunities that create global leaders. In this role, I hope to promote events and learning that frame international and holistic solutions to the problems we are trying to solve. Each program housed within Mason Square is here for a reason, and I believe that while the world will eventually learn from alumni who come from this campus, we must learn from the world as Mason Square students first. We must continue international dialogues in our field, pursue diverse methods and texts, and recognize the privilege we have as continuing students to spread our knowledge outside of the classroom. That is the direction I hope to take our campus. I also understand that being a global leader and pursuing higher education takes time and money. I commit to finding and creating resources that center affordability alongside the Mason Square experience. I believe all students should have access to food, shelter, child care, health care, and professional development, and I hope to improve access to all of these things through the Vice President position. While I have not served in the GAPSA General Assembly, I am confident in my ability to pursue these two platforms of global perspectives and local access, no matter the learning curve required or resources available. I would be honored to serve as your Vice President to GAPSA, Mason Square!
Availability and Commitment to the Time and Expectations of the Position
Yes, I will be able to meet the time commitments of this position. I am registered for 9 credits, 6 synchronously. I intend to repeat this balance (or 9 credits, 6 in-person, 3 online) until graduation. I am only pursuing summer internships at this time. I am able to meet the expectations of this position. I have balanced organizational leadership through student employment and three years of fraternity executive board membership during my undergraduate career. During this time I graduated as the 2025 Outstanding Senior in International Security within the Schar School.
